Here is a summary of the results from the Target Audience Survey:
From these results, we can see that the Acoustic genre, as we suspected, is well liked by a range of people alongside their other favourite genres, from Rock to Reggae. As such, we will need to appeal widely, and not put in any content that could be deemed too contreversial or overly focused towards one type of person. This does not mean, however, that we have to conform to the established codes and conventions of popular music videos, as our survey revealed 72.7% of people like abstract/unique videos, and most would like a video that makes them think. Therefore a concept-based music video seems apt, especially with some of the responses mentioning that an acoustic video should be 'simple'. Our target audience also seem to place a strong emphasis on the performance, mentioned in both their expectations for general videos and our genre. Specifically, playing guitar is mentioned repeatedly, which we feel is something that we must include, as it has been seen in several similar products as well as here.
Our audience also said they preferred to listen via Apple products and CDs mostly, which means that in terms of the digipak, a CD with a digital download included on it would be preferable, as it combines both these methods. Online methods were not as widely used as we expected, however given the growing momentum of internet advertising, we feel it is still an important factor to consider in our band's promotion, as in the next few years, if not now, it is likely that an online profile for musicians will become a lot more important. In terms of the artist's representation, our target audience were mixed on whether they preferred an attractive singer or not - we think that some thought will have to be given to making them look presentable, but the days have where singers have to look like runway models has passed, particular in this genre.
One interesting finding we didn't expect, was the answers to 'What locations would you enjoy seeing in a music video?' with the top answer being studio/stage. Whilst the our pre-planned loactions recieved a lot of votes also, studio/stage came out top. We will now have to re-evaluate whether there is some merit in including a studio setting, perhaps using our college Drama Studio with its black walls and lighting facilities. This would actually be easier logistically to show the band performing, as there are already musical instruments in the area, which is easier than trying to transport a drum kit all the way to a farm.
In terms of our interview, our target audience suggested that the appropriate attire for our singer would be a shirt and waistcoat - also seen in our similar product research and definately something we should consider. Their description of the song seemed to fit with the tone we had previously discussed - a light, heart-warming tune that needs a similarly floating, simple music video to accompany it.

I look forward to seeing your update of Ideas and Intentions following this analysis. Superb L4 analysis here and i can really see your journey. Perhaps you could keep the barn etc for narrative/ concept sequences?
