EH - Filming Report 2

Solo Task: - Emma Hall 9162

Barn Shots
Snitterby Carr
15/11/13

  • Had to move a car out of the barn location before filming could commence.
  • Had to be aware of the time limit for our actor's availability
  • Could not shoot anything looking out of the barn due to cars being parked outside that would be in the shot, so had to work around this with our camera angles and decide to film those shots at a later date.
  • We were restricted to one corner of the barn due to other objects occupying it that couldn't be moved, so had to be careful with our camera angles, but this actually helped to create a more intimate space which suited the tone of our video. Using a smaller space also meant we could make it look more crowded and full of props.
  • We quite easily managed to plug our lighting in despite being in the barn using an extension gang, and used bricks and other objects found in the barn to help hang the lights up, although the hanging sections did at times obstruct the camera and had to be held up out of shot.
  • We had some difficulties in encouraging our singer to act, particularly when shooting in close-up, and we spent some time just helping our actor to feel comfortable.
  • We also were careful to ensure that we were not outside for too long as we filmed on quite a cold day, and the tripod became quite stiff and difficult to operate in the cold weather.
  • Having found we had slightly longer than we expected, we also managed to shoot some footage in the copse as it was nearby.
  • Deanna again mainly managed the set up of the camera and tripod, whilst Alex and Emma set up the props. We also had turns using the camera, with Alex particularly handling unusual shots that were not storyboarded.  Emma generally did most of the directing of the actor and keeping us in line with what we had planned out, whilst Deanna took charge of the shot composition and keeping any unwanted items out of shot.
