EH - Filming Report 3

Abstract/Nature/Rust shots for the opening.

  • Had difficulty setting the tripod onto uneven ground, had to use folders and other materials to protect it and the camera from the mud.
  • As there had been recent rain, the ground, particularly in the field location was very wet and muddy, difficult to cross and causing a slower pace of filming. The cold weather also slowed down the process and made the tripod difficult to tilt/pan and the legs stiff to alter.
  • The sun was also in an awkward position to shoot. In order to get the sun and the field in the same shot as we wanted, but without catching the farm buildings in the shot also, we had to move around the field a lot, experimenting before we found the right angle to eliminate the buildings but still catch the sun.
  • The sun also kept disappearing behind clouds, and in one shot particularly, we had to wait a considerable time with the camera in position before the sun re-appeared and we could get the shot we wanted.
  • At other times, objects like trees or buildings obstructed the sun, and so shots like the oil drum did not have the same sunny look that we wanted, and achieved in the other shots. We are therefore counting on the facilities of Final Cut Pro to match the lighting of this shot to the other shots that will be placed either side of it int he edit.
  • Some shots lacked movement, especially if there was little wind, making htem look more like photographs and giving htem little interest. We had to improvise in shots where the wind dropped by moving the branches of a tree, for example, of camera to give the look of a gentle breeze through berries.
